About Hollie

Hollie's PhD research aims to explore the diversity in adolescent gender dysphoria, which is understood to refer to the experience of distress when one's gender identity and sex do not align. Previous research has often lumped gender-diverse, gender dysphoric, and transgender people in together in a way that can confuse the data and obscure the diverse pathways to gender dysphoria within and between these groups. Hollie's PhD intends to better understand these developmental pathways to gender dysphoria, particularly in contemporary samples of adolescents. Her research further aims to improve knowledge about relationships between different developmental pathways and treatment efficacy so that treatment can be tailored in the most evidence-based and individualised manner.
